You'll definitely going to need this Play Arts Kai action figure if you already have a Noctis PAK. That's because she is Noctis' bride-to-be in Final Fantasy XV. Lunafreya Nox Fleuret is an Oracle that can stop the plague called Starscourge and heal those who are affected by it. She has a duty to fulfill and she's not a typical damsel in distress type of character.

THE FIGURE
|
Viewing Lunafreya on 4 sides. |
This Lunafreya figure looks good. But her character design hits the figure's articulations really bad. If I was to decide which of Luna's design is best suited to be an action figure, I'll choose the Kingsglaive version.
|
She looks like an angel. |
Luna's face, while not accurate on some angles and very have a minor crooked nose, still looks pretty. It's painted very well and have a neutral expression. What's good is that the face sculpt have an optical illusion trick that changes the face's expression if you view it on different angles.
|
It took a lot of time and effort to do that hairstyle. |
The details on Luna's blonde hair is great, there are parts that are braided and the back is tied on a ponytail. there's also a small gold hairpin on the left and right side.
|
Lunafreya's long white dress. |
Her long white dress looks nice and designed very well. There are some bluish and light gray shadings around it. It got lots of linings, folds and wrinkles. It looks like a long white sash wrapped around Lunafreya.
|
A closer look on Lunafreya's backside. |
There are no textures around the dress, it's entirely smooth. If you look closer, the dress is made into three parts: chest, waist and the lower part. The dress' folds and linings really help hide the articulations.
|
Luna's necklace. |
The necklace is sculpted on the chest piece. Even if it's really small, the necklace is detailed and nicely painted in silver with a mix of pearlescent color.
|
The arms looks good, but look at that gap at the shoulder. |
Both arms are bare. Skin paint and shading looks fine. The right hand have a ring on it while the left hand doesn't have any.
|
Looks like she's hovering! |
The lower part of the dress is long but not long enough to touch the floor, at least in front.
|
Taking a little peek underneath the dress. |
The lower part of the dress is cut on the sides making it two pieces so that the legs can move... yes, this Lunafreya figure have legs, details (like her white panties) and articulations.
|
Gotta hand it to ya, SQEX, you gave this figure a pair of legs and feet. |
Luna is wearing high-heeled sandals. They're white and each have a gold stud in-front.
Now that SQEX had made a two action figures with legs that are entirely covered (the first one is Yuna), I think it's time for them to make FFVIII's Edea and Ultimecia as PAK action figures.
ACCESSORIES
|
That's all her stuff... |
Lunafreya have very few accessories. She only got her trident and few extra hands. I mentioned on a past post that SQEX should have added the Cosmogony book and her dogs as part of her accessories.
|
Trident of the Oracle |
The Trident of the Oracle looks really good and it's taller than Lunafreya.
|
A closer look on the Trident's blade. |
I really like those tiny details sculpted on the blades.
|
A brown bandage wrapped and tied around the Trident. |
Other details around the Trident are the bandages, the mini metallic blades...
|
That's a cute little wing. |
...and other metallic parts like the little wing on the bottom. Looks like all the details went on this Trident... and Luna's hair.
|
The Trident in two pieces. The longer and shorter parts |
The Trident is made into two pieces so that you can easily remove the shorter part and easily slide the longer part of the Trident in both gripping hands, then re-attach the shorter part.
|
The extra hands. |
The extra hands looks good. She have a pair gripping hands for her trident. The extra open left hand and right fist are for gestures and to help stabilize Lunafreya's hold on the trident if you only use one gripping hand.
|
Extra hands front view. |
The rings on the extra right hands are painted metallic silver.
|
Display stand |
Luna is not a fighter-type of character that can do flashy attack combos and this figure can stand very well on its own so the display stand is useless. SQEX just included it because it's a standard issue.
ARTICULATIONS
|
Lunafreya, the Oracle. |
I said earlier that Lunafreya's character design hits the figure really bad on the articulations. Well it's obvious why but SQEX really tried their best to make this PAK figure poseable as much as possible.
A couple of simple but elegant poses.
Huh, she looks like an adult Namine from the Kingdom Hearts series.
The head have very nice movement range with very few limitations and the neck articulation really helps the head to lean and look around better.
|
Waiting for her groom-to-be. |
The chest part is made of soft plastic. It twists, turns and leans just fine. The arms can easily cross forward the chest.
[left] Stoic stance
[right] Holding her Trident with both hands.
The arms have good movement range, but moves awkwardly in an angle if you move the arms across the chest.
[left] Ready stance
[right] Raising the Trident.
The shoulder articulation is the same as Cindy's. There's no bicep swivel that this figure needs but the elbow ball-hinges can do that.
|
Leading the charge. |
The elbows can bend more than 90 degrees and there are no problems when moving the wrist ball-hinges.
|
She can also fend herself against some monsters thanks to her Trident. |
This figure have a waist articulation and its movement range is really good.
|
Spreading the legs a bit. |
Luna's legs can move but if you spread the legs sideways, they will peek out from the form-fitting dress. The dress doesn't work like those sexy elegant party dresses that have cuts to show its wearer's legs. It's impossible to make Luna sit.
The legs also have ball-hinged knees and ankles that moves really well. But they're pretty much useless unless you want to make Lunafreya do a kicking or extreme action pose.
I think using a cloth for the dress' lower part will make this figure better. But that will raise the figure's price and there might have inconsistencies with the texture of the plastic and the cloth.
SCALING
Let's check out Lunafreya's scaling comparison with the rest of my PAK action figures!
|
These are my FFXV PAK figures so far.
I didn't know Luna is that short. |
Lunafreya is the shortest when compared with
Noctis and
Cindy. The scaling comparison with some FFXV characters is pretty good so far.
QUALITY ISSUES
There's one issue in my Lunafreya figure: there's a small and barely noticeable extra plastic on on the left side of her face. It's not noticeable unless you take a very close look at her face. No worries though, I just rubbed my clean thumb carefully on Luna's face to remove the extra bit of plastic. Still, be sure to inspect your Luna figure before buying it.
CONCLUSION
The character design, sculpt and details of this Lunafreya Play Arts Kai figure is great, but it sacrifices the movement of the legs. The lack of accessories hurt this figure more and the price adds insult to injury. Its price should be cheaper because the action figure itself doesn't require too much sculpting and painting. This is a companion/partner figure for Noctis and, in my opinion, a quick cash grab by SQEX. People will most likely buy this if they have a Noctis PAK and/or have all FFXV PAK figures.

Lunafreya and Noctis |
Finally these two are together and I think today is Luna's birthday.
