[Toy Review] NEKU SAKURABA - The World Ends With You (Final Remix) Bring Arts

The World Ends With You, the cult hit Nintendo DS game got released for the Nintendo Switch (and iOS and Android devices previously) and they slapped a Final Remix on the title meaning that this new version/port of TWEWY is the definitive one (I still prefer the DS version). To celebrate the release, SQEX made a Bring Arts action figure of the headphones-wearing emo main character, Neku Sakuraba. I've been waiting for this figure for years after missing the old static arts figure of him and Shiki. This is my first Bring Arts action figure.

"All the world needs is me. I got my values...
So you can keep yours, all right?"
~ Neku Sakuraba ~

The box is windowed-type you can already see the figure and its accessories through the viewing window in front. The design of the box is themed around the game's artwork and aesthetics. You can read some info about Neku on the left side of the box. The back shows more product shots of the figure in a comicbook-style look.

THE FIGURE

The action figure is really small but it looks good and really detailed.

Viewing Neku at four sides.
Neku looks simple, but with his stylized character design that have lots of flared and sharp angles in the clothing, that simple look becomes cool. He's pretty skinny and I can't believe SQEX manage to make the articulations on the elbows and wrists work.

Mug shot.
Neku's face is really accurate to the main source material. This is one of the rare figures that have a 100% accuracy when it comes to faces. Neku's mouth is obscured by his shirt's overly large collar. The spiky hairsculpt is smooth and flat, no visible hair strands sculpted. The paintjob on the hair is great, it got a yellow and orange hue.

Large over-ear headphones to block the outside noise.
Neku is wearing his blue headphones. It looks good and its paintjob is pretty nice.

Neku's daily threads.
Neku wears a dark blue and purple sleeveless top with yellow trims in front. It got a really large collar that almost looks like a scarf or a hood. This is not textured but there are wrinkles for detail. The back is just plain dark blue.

Neku's music player.
He got a white music player dongle, he wears it like a pendant. It's painted well.

What thin arms you got.
His arms are very thin making him look like a scrawny kid, but it's just part of the design. The skin tone is very light and it doesn't have any shadings. The left hand have a thick yellow wrist band.

Neku's shorts.
The white knee-high shorts looks nice, like the top, no textures just wrinkles and few shadings. The shorts also have large pockets with purple trim and yellow rivets/buttons at the sides. The skin tone of the legs looks fine.

Back of the shorts.
The back of the shorts have two back pockets also with purple trims.

Loose belt... Neku is such a rebel.
Neku is wearing his black belt with gray buckle very loose, just to show that he have a "don't care" attitude.

Nice big shoes.
The shoes or boots is large and clown-like, it reminds me of Sora from Kingdom Hearts, well they both have the same character designer. By the way Neku also appeared in Kingdom Hearts 3D. The colors and design of the footwear is similar to Neku's top. They also have two two white straps with yellow buttons on each shoe.

Checking out the bottom of the shoes.
The bottom of the shoes are treaded for detail.

ACCESSORIES

This Bring Arts action figure of Neku have nice amount accessories. All of them are interchangeable pieces.

Neku's loot.
The packaging have three interchangeable heads and four extra hands and one of them have a special effect. It's nice that this figure is expressive because of the faces. But it would be awesome if SQEX included some projectile and slashing effects because Neku can pull-off lots of melee and ranged attacks in the game.

Angry/Shouting, Shocked, Closed eyed faces.
The extra interchangeable heads looks really nice and doesn't have any problems sculpt-wise. The screaming head have a lousy paintjob on the mouth. It got too much white paint that makes this head look like it got large teeth or something. Anyway the heads are easy to swap, just connect the head's peg to the neck. The peg got a ball joint that's connected to the head.

Extra hands
The hands looks nice. They are stored in this plastic bar which make it easier to keep these hands without going everywhere if not handled properly.

You can't even see the hand unless you look at the bottom.
The last extra hand have a transparent effect on it. I expected that it would be holding pins, but unfortunately there are none.

Bring Arts display stand
The display stand is really useful and no complicated assembly required. This is a nice decision by SQEX to make this type of display stand. It got two clamps one have a wider opening and the other have smaller opening.

ARTICULATIONS

Grasping the Player Pin.
Bring Arts action figures are like Play Arts Kai figures but smaller. But because of their smaller build some joints are very small and looks very fragile.

Checking out the countdown timer in his hand.
The head is on a ball joint, it can move but it's limited by the collar (which is not a soft piece by the way). The neck can also move too making the head to move a bit more.

"Focus"
The hands have a ball-hinge on each shoulder. These joints are exposed but it looks nice because they're almost as wide as the biceps. The arms can't raise high vertically because of the collar but they can fully rotate.

He's shocked
No bicep swivel but they can swivel using the shoulder ball-hinges. The elbows have a very small hinge joint. They have a very nice bending range because of the thin arms. The forearms can also swivel on this joint.

"Watch yourself!"
The wrists have a weird joint that I think they're designed just for this Neku figure. they got a hinge and can also swivel to the hand move very well.

"You're good as done!"
The left hand's movement is a bit limited because of the wrist band.

Neku's neutral fighting stance.
The chest is made of hard plastic but it can turn side to side and twist and pivot very well. The waist have nice movement too.

Dodging
The legs have very limited movement going up forward, to the back and to the sides because of the baggy shorts...

Doing a Psych move like Pyrokinesis
...but their movement is enough to make the figure pull some of its moves seen in the game.

Horizontal slash!
There's a hidden leg swivel located in the shorts. The legs can also swivel by using the ball joints on the legs.

Rising slash!
The knees is on a ball-hinge. The shorts limits the knee movement. The shins can swivel using the ball-hinges too.

Using a full-screen attack
that usually requires you to scream or blow on the mic.
The shoes have a hidden hinge that makes both shoe point up and down with some limitation because of the shoes' design.

"Gotta bounce!"
The shoes also got that nice foot pivot that's most commonly seen in the old Play Arts figures.

SCALING

This is my first Bring Arts action figure so I can't compare them with other Bring Arts figures but I will compare them with the other figures that I got to show you how small this Neku figure is.

Neku and Cloud
Here is Neku next to Play Arts Kai Cloud (FFVII:AC). See how small this Bring Arts figure is? Neku is less than half the size of Cloud.

Neku with Shik... I mean, Kairi from Kingdom Hearts.
Now lets compare Neku to Play Arts Kairi (KH2) which is smaller. Still, Neku is small compared to the Kairi Play Arts figure.

Neku with Hawkgirl
Lastly, I got the DC Collectibles action figure of Hawkgirl (DC Bombshells) which can be considered as a 1:12 scale figure which I think this Neku figure also belongs to scale-wise. Well, Neku is still small.

QUALITY ISSUES

I didn't see any major flaws on this figure even though it looks very fragile. No broken parts or missing/warped pieces, no loose parts too which is great. The only problem I found are the usual minor paint problems which I found on the main neutral face (one of the front bangs have a very noticeable small dot).

CONCLUSION

Well, this is my solid entry into collecting Bring Arts action figure. This Neku Sakuraba action figure is a solid figure, it looks nice and can pose really well. I enjoyed posing this figure and it's fun to make it imitate the moves seen in the game. It got nice variety of accessories but it lacks some effects. This is a small action figure so its price is lower than the larger Play Arts Kai figures (still I wish this is a PAK figure). If you're a TWEWY fan then I recommend that you get this figure. Let's hope that they make Shiki and the rest of the main playable characters too.

Now I made a quick, sloppy and simple toy edit.

Hurling random objects using a telekinesis Psych move.
The traffic cone and barricade are not included in the packaging. I just bought them to use as props for this figure because like I said, this figure lacks a few more accessories.

Cheers and Happy Collecting!

P.S.: Now this is a weird wish but... NEKU FOR SMASH!
