Finally got a time to do a quick (but still detailed) toy review! This is about the
Trading Arts figures that I picked up. The first one I'm going to review is Cloud Strife's DFFOO Trading Arts Figure (normal and the transparent version).
PACKAGING
Front and back of the box.
Trading Arts is a blind box. That means you get a random character that is included in the wave. This is the first wave (hopefully we get more because these looks cool to collect). The front shows all the characters in the first wave along with their transparent versions. By the way, you need to assemble the tiny figure, don't worry it's easy to assemble them.
Packaging includes: Cloud figure (unassembled), Display stand, Instructions
THE FIGURE
The figure mimics Cloud's pose as seen in the artwork in the original Dissidia and Opera Omnia.
|
Viewing Cloud at four sides. |
It looks good and detailed for a small figure and it's painted very well for a small toy.
|
Cloud's face |
The headsculpt and face also looks good and have nice paint job but there's a very tiny dot above Cloud's left eyebrow. Cloud's spiky hair is detailed.
|
Ex-SOLDIER Cloud |
The default look of Cloud is his ex-SOLDIER uniform. The turtleneck top is detailed with lining to simulate the knitted look of the clothing. You can see the details on the brown belts and straps like the SOLDIER emblem and some studs and buckles The baggy pants have wrinkles and linings for detail and the black boots are glossy with some silver paint applied on the zippers and trimmings.
|
How could they forget the Buster Sword's Materia slots!? |
The back just like the front is also detailed but it's obstructed by Cloud's the Buster Sword that's missing two Materia slots, which is an epic fail. The sword still have other details though and it's nicely painted.
|
Checking out Cloud's left arm. |
The skin tone on the face and arms looks nice, no shadings though. The left arm features a shoulder guard and the (I forgot what it's called, sorry) Iron Bangle both have metallic silver paint applied. There are white parts underneath the bangle to show that the left wrist is wrapped with bandages. The brown gloves have tiny details.
ARTICULATIONS
Did you just say "What!?". Yes, this little figure have articulation. That's right it's not plural because the head is the only part that moves! And this figure having an articulation make it technically an action figure.
|
Looking to his left side. |
It's connected to the body via small peg and the head can move because it got a ball joint.
I don't know why SQEX included this articulation... but hey, at least you can still play with it by making this figure to look at other direction when you got bored.
TRANSPARENT VERSION
|
The Transparent "Manikin" version. |
Everything is the same except that this version is transparent and uses a light blue plastic. The other differences is that the face have soul-less eyes.
SCALING
The characters in DFFOO mostly have the same height (except for the younger or short characters like Zidane, Palom, Krile and Vivi).
|
Cloud with his Manikin |
Here are the two versions of Cloud.
|
Lightning and Cloud |
Cloud and
Lightning have the same height.
|
Two small Clouds. |
I also compared this figure to other smaller figures from SQEX like the
Trading Arts Kai mini figure of Cloud.
|
Tiny Cloud, meet Giant Cloud. |
To get a gist of how tiny this figure is, I also included the
Play Arts Kai action figure of Cloud (FFVII:AC).
QUALITY ISSUES
The figure doesn't have any major flaws, except for that really bothersome missing Materia slots on the Buster Sword.
CONCLUSION
The DFFOO Trading Arts figure of Cloud is a really nice figure that you can display on your office and display shelf. The details of this figure is great I looks really good but with a major detail that SQEX forgot to put in the sculpt or mold. This figure is cheap but hard to find at least here in the Philippines. I really hope that SQEX will continue this line because I want to have the rest of the available characters in the game especially WoL, Rydia, Terra, Cecil and Firion.
Cheers and Happy Collecting!
