[Toy Review] PROMPTO ARGENTUM - Final Fantasy XV Play Arts Kai Action Figure

I finally got the Play Arts Kai action figure of one of the Final Fantasy XV's "Chocobros". He's a nimble gun-slinging selfie expert and funny guy, Prompto Argentum. This is a 2nd hand figure. The condition of this figure is really good and it's review worthy.

"I never imagined I'd work out like this.
That I'd get to go on an adventure with you guys."
~ Prompto Argentum ~

THE FIGURE

Viewing Prompto on four sides.

The figure looks good but the arms, or shoulders, looks low. Prompto is a chubby kid in the past, but now he's slim and very fit. So I think the articulations of his PAK action figure have good range of motion.

Prompto's headshot

Prompto is a good-looking bro. Something is missing on his face though, the freckles and some blush around them. The face and hair are painted really well. The hair have some white highlights in some parts. I don't know if those highlights are intentional or not.

Prompto's Crownsguard Fatigues

Prompto is wearing a leather sleeveless jacket with lots of nice detailed prints. The jacket is covered with patch-like design (with some of them have cleanly printed logos/artwork) and its buttons are painted gold. He wears another sleeveless clothing with printed line patterns underneath the jacket. The jacket and undershirt is made of soft flexible plastic.

The jacket looks similar to biker jackets.

The back of the jacket shows a large black skull print with large patches on its top and bottom. The patches have clean printed words. The top patch says "DEAD OR ALIVE" and the bottom patch says "SILENT SCREAM".

Right arm

The right arm have a black cloth tied around the bicep. The wrist have a black wristband.

Left arm

The left arm have a smaller wristband. Both hands have fingerless gloves. Both arms have nice skin tone and shadings and the black areas are painted well.

Check out Prompto's skull belt.

The white belt is not painted really well. I can see the unpainted sides/edges of the belt. The buckle have a skull and it's painted well with silver paint. Prompto is also wearing these skirt-looking cloth. This is part of the jacket and it got two printed patterns. These cloth parts are soft.

Right jacket cloth

The right side have crisscrossed or cross hatching pattern on a maroon cloth.

Left jacket cloth

The left side have a plaid pattern.

Jacket cloth back.

The left and right cloth parts have uneven length, probably depends on how these parts are posed. The printed pattern looks clean.

Pant's right side

Prompto's pants look normal at first glance, but it got some details that's consistent to his jacket. The pants also lacks some more wrinkles and highlights that makes it look like a snake skin as seen in his 3D renders and model.

Skull chain accessory.

Prompto also got skull themed silver chains/accessory clipped on his right side of the belt. This accessory is soft and flexible and doesn't hinder he right leg's articulation.

Pant's left side

The left side of the pants shows more patch-like patterns as seen in Prompto's jacket.

Kinda looks like a cowboy gunslinger boots.

The boots looks really good and the toes are pointing up. It doesn't have any shoelaces but it got a couple of glossy straps on each boot. It also have some studs behind the boots and the sides have gold trim.

Boot soles.

Like Noct's boots, the bottom of Promto's boot also have red soles. The soles of Prompto's boots have waffle-style patters just like in real-life Vans skateshoes.

ACCESSORIES

Prompto only have a total of five accessories in the packaging. He only got his handgun for equipment and four extra interchangeable hands.

Prompto's accessories

So few accessories for a guy that have nice selection of sub-weapons at his disposal. SQEX should have included one or two additional weapons (Circular Saw, Noiseblaster etc.). Oh, they should have added his Lokton camera (with tripod).

Valiant

This is one of Prompto's handguns - Valiant. It's so detailed. It's silver and have a black textured grip.

Extra hands

These are Prompto's four extra hands (he got a total of six hands). The fingerless gloves looks really good except for the right trigger hand that have black paint on the thumb.

PAK display stand

This is the first time that I held an assembled PAK stand (the first owner assembled it). It looks cumbersome to use. But since it's already assembled, I'm gonna use this on one of my PAK figures that have trouble standing on its own. The stand have two clamps one with small grip and the other have wider grip. The clamps can be loosened/tightened by using a tool included in the stand, or use pliers. The stand have adjustable height the "rod" of the stand have two parts the one connected to the base have a hexagon-shaped peg and the other part have hexagon-shaped peg holes for height adjustment. This is cumbersome to use and can be space consuming depending on how the parts of the "rod" are connected.

ARTICULATIONS

Chillin'

PAK Prompto is a slim action figure. Let's see if this figure is fun to pose.

Prompto's 3D render pose.

The head is on a double ball peg. It moves really well without any problems. The neck is also on a double ball peg for more head movement range. Great articulation.

Pointing and laughing.

Both arms have ball-hinges for articulation. The shoulder ball-hinges moves really well. No bicep swivel but can be done by using the elbow ball-hinges. Thanks to the soft material used on the jacket and cuts located on its chest pockets helps the arms to move across the chest.

Aiming the gun.

The elbow ball hinges have really nice more than 90 degree bend. The forearms can also swivel using the ball-hinges. Huh, I just noticed a small black smudge on Prompto's right forearm.

Ready to shoot.

The wrist ball-hinges moves well but it looks weird.

Revolver fanning.

This figure have hidden chest articulation. It's hard to pose this part even though the undershirt is made of soft plastic material. This material really hinders the chest articulation.

"Never fear, Prompto's here!"

The waist moves really well, unlike the chest. It can turn/tilt side to side really well.

Prompto doing his crackshot move.

Thanks to the slim pants. The legs can move really well. No thigh swivel but the legs can twist on the leg joints Prompto can do some nice kicks. The cloth parts of the jacket are articulated for more dynamic posing effect.

Crouching shot.

The double hinged knees looks good when you bend them. It got a nice range of motion.

Acrobatic shooting.

The boots have ball-hinges and have two clicks to point up and three clicks to point down. The boots can swivel and pivot.

SCALING

Let's see how tall or short this PAK Prompto figure compared with some of my PAK figures. I'm not comparing the heights of all of my figures (just the related ones for this figure) because it eats time.

The cook, the joker and the sleepyhead prince.

Prompto is a little shorter than Noctis and Ignis.

Prompto with the ladies of FFXV.

Prompto and Aranea have the same height. Cindy and Lunafreya are shorter than Prompto.

Prompto with guys who wield large swords.

Both Cloud (FFVII:AC) and Zack (CC) are slightly taller than Prompto.

Gun enthusiast club.

Catwoman (Variant) is shorter than Prompto while Balthier and Vincent (DoC) are taller than him.

Prompto with some more ladies.

Lara Croft (RotTR) and Prompto almost have the same height. Tifa (FFVII:R) is taller while Lightning (LR:FFXIII) is shorter than Prompto.

QUALITY ISSUES

This PAK figure of Prompto is built really well. But as usual, the only quality issues that I found are minor and all belong in the paint department.

CONCLUSION

I'm happy that I got the Play Arts Kai action figure of Prompto. The figure looks really good and accurate. It's highly articulated and fun to pose. The accessory count is very few, I wish there could be more accessories for him. Noctis finally have another bro with him in my PAK collection. I recommend that you get this figure if you already have Noctis because it looks sad when Noctis is the only PAK FFXV bro in your collection.

Special thanks to Mr. Joe Bolinao, a fellow member of Play Arts Kai Philippines Facebook group, for selling me this figure. This PAK Prompto now have a new home in my collection.

Cheers and Happy Collecting!
