[Toy Review] SELENE / MIZUKI - figma (Pokémon Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon)

I have played Pokémon Ultra Sun version for the Nintendo 3DS and I liked it because the gameplay felt a little different from previous gens. I like the game so much that I bought this figma action figure of Selene/Mizuki (we'll go for the name Selene for this review), the female protagonist of the game. By the way, this is her default Sun/Moon look.

THE FIGURE

Viewing Selene in 4 sides.

This is the Sun/Moon version of Selene. I prefer this original look than her Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon look even though the US/UM look blends well with the Alola Region's Hawaiian theme with beaches and islands.

Taking an Trainer I.D. picture.

Selene is a happy kid, like most of the protagonists of the Pokémon series. That's why her default face shows a nice smile. The paint job of the face is good.

Cute beanie.

Selene's red "flower" beanie looks nice but doesn't fit in the summery vibe of the Alola Region. The white logo looks clean.

No hat Selene.

The beanie is removable so you can see Selene without a headwear.

Looks like a lobotomized head.

But that exposes the hole on top of her head where you peg in the beanie

Summer clothes.

Selene's clothing have a summer beach vibe. There are lots of nicely printed stars and triangles around the shirt. This shirt is wider at the bottom and you can peek underneath to see that Selene is wearing a white tank top underneath.

Selene's back.

The back shows more of the printed shapes and a peg hole for the stand.

Is the bow just a design on a shirt?

Her shirt his tied to a big bow at the bottom.

Selene's right arm.

Both arms looks good and the skin tone looks nice. The sleeves of the shirt have few wrinkles for detail.

Leaf colored shorts.

Selene is wearing a very short teal/cyan shorts. It looks simple with few details like seam lines.

Slim legs.

Her legs looks nice and the skintone is pretty good. No shadings around the legs.

Selene's shoes.

The shoes also doesn't fit in the Region but they look nice, well painted and it looks like it's based on the Pokémon named Trapinch.

ACCESSORIES

Selene have a very nice variety of accessories.

Selene's stuff.

Selene got a shoulder bag, a Poké-ball and a Z-Ring for her wrist. She got an extra interchangeable face and a total of ten extra hands.

They're cute.

She got three Gen 7 starter Pokémon static figurines: Rowlet, Litten and Popplio. That's really cool.

Selene's bag.

The shoulder bag looks nice and painted really well. It looks like a slice of watermelon or berry.

Bag's blank-side.

What's disappointing is that the other side of the bag is just white. The sides are black and the bottom is colored yellow.

The bag's accessory.

The bag's strap is soft. No need to remove some parts of the figure to wear it. The bag have a charm (or trinket) accessory that's painted well.

Z-Ring

The Z-Ring is detailed but it looks boring. In Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon they replaced the white Z-Ring with a newer and better black Z-Power Ring. The blue Z-Crystal in the middle is painted well. You need to remove the hand and its wrist joint first then place the Z-ring then peg back the wrist joint and the hand.

Small Poké-ball.

Selene's Poké-ball is smaller than Red's. It's not round, it got a flat area so that the gripping hand can hold it well. The Poké-ball is glossy and the black lines looks smudged.

Grass-type Pokémon, Rowlet.

Now for Selene's Gen VII starter Pokémon. Rowlet goes first. This pokemon is simple and round-ish and got a very nice paint job. The green leaf-like feathers on his chest looks like a bowtie.

Rowlet's back.

There are some simple feather-like details at the back of Rowlet.

Fire-type Pokémon, Litten.

Next is Litten. It looks really nice and its paint job is really clean. I like Litten's colors and he got a serious or snobbish look on its face.

Litten's back.

Litten is mostly black and there are no major details around it. Each leg have two red lines and the tail is a little spiky at the tip.

Water-type Pokémon, Popplio.

And lastly, Popplio. Looks like this Pokémon is based on the seals that performs in the circus. The light blue part around its neck looks like a clown's collar. Popplio have a nice happy face.

Popplio's back.

There are no other details on Popplio. It looks very simple and its arms have white lines to make the details pop.

Selene's happy face.

Selene's interchangeable face have a big happy smile. The paint job is great.

So many hands!

Selene got ten extra interchangeable hands. Most of them are used for performing the Z-Move poses, like the pair of open hands, karate chop hands and hadoken hands. She also got a pair of gripping hands, a pointing finger right hand and a baseball grip right hand for the Poké-ball.

figma display stand.

The figma stand is really useful especially if you want Selene to perform some Z-Move poses.

Figure stand extender.

The stand came with an extender, I don't plan on using it.

ARTICULATIONS

Z-Ring flexing.

I expect this figma Selene action figure to be highly articulated. I want to make this figure do Z-Move poses.

Ready to set off on a journey.

The head can fully rotate and can look up, down and tilt side to side pretty well.

Showing off her Poké-ball.

Selene have a hidden upper torso articulation. It moves really well but it's super loose, like if I hold this figure on the torso and shake it the lower torso and legs swings like a bell. Still, it can hold the poses without flopping down to the sides. I don't know if this is a common issue for the figma Selene figures or I just got a little unlucky.

Doing the Normalium Z-Move with Rowlet.

The lower torso (or waist) articulation is not loose and it moves well too.

Selene and Popplio perfoming the Waterium Z-Move.

Both arms have a great range of motion from moving up, down, forward, backward and sideways. But the trade-off is that the shoulder joints are more exposed, kinda reminds me of revoltech joints.

Making Litten do the Firium Z-Move.

The biceps can also swivel. The shirt's sleeves hides the swivel joints.

Commanding Rowlet to tackle.

The elbows have can bend a little bit more than 90 degrees and can also swivel.

Running around.

The hands are on a ball-hinge. The left hand nave decent range of motion while the left hand's movement is limited a bit with the Z-Ring on.

Ghostnium Z-Move, "Never Ending Nightmare".

The legs have very good range of motion thanks to the slim legs and short shorts. Both legs can raise up forward high and can go back a little. The legs can also swivel a bit.

Poisonium Z-Move, "Acid Downpour".

The single-hinged knees looks good even when the legs are bent.

Selene with her Pokémon.

The feet are on a ball-hinge and the shoes hides this joint. It have very limited movement when pointing up because of the shoelaces but have a very good range when pointing down. They can also pivot but in an angle a bit. The feet have toe hinge.

SCALING

Let's compare Selene's height with her fellow Pokémon trainer, Red.

Selene with Red.

Selene is taller than Red. It's also weird to see them both together in a same picture because in Pokémon Sun/Moon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, Red is an adult and obviously taller.

Fairium Z-Move or Mimikyu's Z-Move, "Let's Snuggle Forever"!

Some of Takara Tomy's Moncollé Pokémon figurines are compatible with the figma Selene figure. Here she is with Moncollé Mimikyu.

Playing with her RotomDex.

I even got her RotomDex, also a Moncollé Pokémon figure.

QUALITY ISSUES

The only problem that I encountered on my figma Selene is the super loose upper torso I mentioned earlier.

CONCLUSION

Even with one loose joint, this Selene figma action figure is a solid action figure. This figure is highly poseable and can do those Z-Move poses. It also have a lot of accessories and interchangeable parts. You can also buy some Moncollé Pokémon figurines to increase figma Selene's Pokémon roster. You get what you payed for on this figure with that amount of accessories, high poseability, playability and presentation. I got this figure for cheap and I'm lucky to get the last stock in the toy store I visited. This figma action figure is highly recommended either if you're a Pokémon fan or not.

Pokémon battle!

Cheers and Happy Collecting!
