[Toy Review] SABER OKITA SOUJI - Fate Grand Order Petitrits Model Kit (Partly Painted)

Got another Petitrits model kit, and she's Saber Okita Souji from Fate Grand Order. I don't know why they made a some male historical/mythological figures female..? Anyway, I like how she looks already. I hand-painted some of its parts so bear with the sloppy paintwork.

"There is no good or bad on the battlefield, only death!"
~ Saber Okita Souji ~

PACKAGING

Topside of the box.

The top of the box shows a nice artwork of Okita in a very snowy place, very winter-y vibe.

Bottom of the box.

The bottom of the box shows nothing...

One side of the box.

But the sides shows more, like the kit's completely assembled product shots and doing different poses.

Saber Okita Souji kit building begins!

Packaging includes:
- 2x runners
- 1x Sticker sheet
- Instruction manual

Recommended tools:
- Nippers
- Scissors/X-Acto knife (or something similar)
- Sand paper
- Paint, thinners and paintbrushes/air brush/spray paints (optional)

Be careful when you use model kit building tools. If you're a kid, have a parent or older sibling to assist you while building Gunpla or any model kits. And read the instructions properly to avoid building errors that might result to broken parts/pieces.

THE BUILD/FIGURE

Viewing Okita at four sides.

The real Okita Souji is a member of the Shinsengumi group, probably a high ranking officer. I heard he's really popular with the ladies. This Saber Okita from fate looks really nice and might be popular with the boys.

What a cute face for a man-slayer.

The face looks really good and cute, she kinda resembles the first known Saber in the Fate series. The pale yellow eyes are stickers and I applied a mix of matte and gloss top coats for the visible skin like the face.

Okita's small ahoge.

Her peach-blonde colored hair have a small ahoge, it's cute. I applied a thin layer of glossy topcoat on the hair.

Cute bow.

A black bow ties her hair and she got a short ponytail. The hair's gap lines looks good it's like part of the hairstyle.

Shinsengumi uniform

She's wearing the Shinsengumi uniform or what the uniform will look like if they made one for female members. The blue jacket looks nice.

Checking the uniform a bit closer.

The white clothing underneath looks nice too. I painted its black part with a Gundam Marker, my shaky hand kinda ruined the paint application. The blue and black part part that looks like the "belt" are two different colored plastic. I painted the white lace on the black part. The cross part is a separate plastic.

Back of the blue jacket.

The back part of the jacket have a rope-like part. I followed the product shots and manual and painted it white.

I'm a fan of scarves. It really helps my throat when the weather is cold.

She's wearing a black scarf. Looks nice and gives an impression that her character theme is winter.

One end of the scarf.

The scarf is very long and its two ends are like flowing in the wind.

The right sleeve.

I painted the white parts on the jacket sleeves, it's sloppy and got chipped while I'm turning it while painting. Anyway, the arms (or sleeves) looks really good.

Okita's left hand.

I painted the gauntlets or arm guards using a gundam marker. It looks better painted even though my paint job is really poor in execution. The left hand have a peg for the sword sheath.

Long leg guards.

The leg guards are really detailed. I just used a matte topcoat for both legs.

Back of the leg guards, the heels are exposed.

The backside of the leg guards are also detailed.

The toes.

The exposed toes and heels are just black just like the leg guards. I lack the paint color for the skin so I used stickers for these parts.

ACCESSORIES/OPTIONAL PARTS

Saber Okita only have two accessories: her katana and its sheath.

Okita's equipment.

To me these two are not enough. An extra interchangeable face and extra pair of hands will make this kit better while keeping the price low.

Okita's katana.

Her katana looks really good and detailed for a small sword. I used the two-part sticker for the blade. I will paint the blade once I got a metallic silver paint.

The katana's grip.

I painted the black parts of the sword's grip with a Gundam Marker. My painting errors kinda worked because the extra paintbleeds can be considered as shadings. The kashira (pommel/butt cap) of the sword is painted gold.

Sword guard up close.

The katana's sword guard is painted gold. The katana looks great when its painted.

Sword sheath.

The white sheath for the katana looks really simple. I painted the black and gold parts. The sheath have a peg hole so that Okita can hold it on her left hand. I wish there's an option where you can attach the sheath on Okita's side.

Other side of the sheath.

The other side of the sheath is hollow. It doesn't look good when this side is exposed when posing the kit. It should have been a solid piece. By the way the sheath doesn't have one tiny detail: the hole where you slide the blade in.

Okita's display base.

The display base for Okita Souji is a blue round base with "spark" or "glimmer" effects that makes this base unique for her.

The base's figure holder.

The base's figure holder holds the kit really well, probably because of the detailed leg guards that have some grooves and ridges.

Painted base.

I painted the "spark and glimmer" effects of the base white and sealed it with a glossy topcoat. It looks much better this way.

ARTICULATIONS

"Prepare to face death!"

Saber Okita Souji have limited articulations because the Petitrits kits have few articulation points. But you can still do some really nice poses on this kit.

Charging stab stance.

The head is on a ball-joint. Its movement is heavily limited because Okita's hair on the side bumps with the scarf. The ponytail can swivel.

Focusing her sword on her enemy.

No torso articulation. The shoulders are on a ball-joint that have a nice range of movement. The arms have bicep swivel. The elbows are single-hinged and have a decent 90 degree bend. The hands are on a ball-joint and moves really well.

Sheathing/un-sheathing the katana.
(camera angle techique)

The legs have limited movement up forward and to the back because of the white clothing that acts like a skirt. They can raise a bit more sideways. The feet are on a ball-joint, like the hands, they got decent movement.

The scarf is flowing with the wind.

The two ends of the scarf are also articulated but they easily fall off when you move the head and the ends of the scarf themselves.

SCALING

Okita Souji and Nero Claudius.

This Okita Souji Petitrits kit measures around 10cm and here she is next to Caster Nero Claudius. Okita is shorter because Nero wears elevated sandals. I think even without the sandals Nero is a tiny bit taller.

QUALITY ISSUES

The kit doesn't have any warped or broken parts. The quality of the runners are really good.

CONCLUSION

The Petitrits Saber Okita Souji model kit looks really nice and simple, that's why I really like this one. She's now my 2nd favorite female character in the series. It's easy to paint this kit, it only requires a minimum of 3 paint colors and it will look better. The accessories are lacking and can use a little more interchangeable parts The display base is unique for Okita and painting the base will make the whole kit more presentable. The articulations are really limited in the head and legs, it's the only downside of this kit. The kit is really cheap so I recommend this kit whether you're a fan of the fate series or not. Or if you find the actual SD/chibi figures too pricey.

She's prepared to fight.

Yeah, she can stand really well even with one foot tip-toed on the ground.

Cheers and Happy Collecting!
