[Toy Review] Evangelion Portraits 8: Rei Ayanami (School Swimsuit) Review

Time for another static toy review from Bandai, and again it's a character from the anime series called Evangelion, her name is Rei Ayanami. I mentioned her in my previous review of Asuka and Mari. She's a quiet character, so quiet sometimes it's disturbing. If my memory serves, I think she came from that ADAM that NERV has in their basement. Anyways this is an Evangelion Portraits 8 figure and I got this figure in early 2013.

PACKAGING

Yup, I will just re-use this box shot :D

Evangelion Portraits box is a colorful box without windows to see what's inside. You always get random figures here so in-case that you got what you already have, you can sell or trade it with your fellow collectors that doesn't have the figure you've got. At the back of the box shows the figures that are included in volume 8.

This figure have few parts.
After unboxing, you get the figure and its accessory in a disassembled state and a basic display stand with figure supporterr.

Rei's got a display stand and figure supporter made specifically for her because of her pose. The display stand have that traditional embossed NERV logo.

THE FIGURE

Alright, now that the figure is assembled, let's talk about it. Rei wears her school swimsuit and she comes with a towel. Since she only wears a swimsuit, the details are pretty simple, so simple that the overall paint job doesn't have any problems.

Front and back (towel on)

She is posed like she's walking out from the pool evident that she have that towel on her shoulders and using it to dry her hair.

Front and back (no towel)

Removing the towel changes the meaning of her pose. It looks like she's posing for the camera.

I removed the towel so that the swimsuit and body details can be seen very well

Her front and back is simple with few details like the swimsuit straps and linings plus other details that defines her body. You can also see her class year and section on her swimsuit.

Rei close up... Same neutral face and it's OK
This figure got an accurate face. Rei is a quiet type character so it's OK to see her face having a normal expression, fortunately she's pretty even having that poker face look. Her blue hair looks great with flat colors (no shadings). The hair collects dust very easily and it's hard to remove the dust without applying water.

Her towel looks real
Rei's towel is matte textured so that it can provide that kinda rough feeling that some towel has. It looks realistic too.

It's dust not paint shadings
Having a matte texture makes her towel a dust sponge. It's hard to remove those dust, I have to use a brush and water to get rid some of it. Oh yeah, her hands looks nice too

Rei's legs are soft... don't take it the wrong way.
The arms and legs are painted well, the exposed skin have shadings. The figure is kinda soft on the legs part and the holes on her feet fit loosely on the stand's pegs making her easy to fall, so attach that figure supporter on her display stand.

CONCLUSION

This Rei figure overall is great. I don't see any problems and weird deformities on this figure. I can't find a Rei stand alone (not part of a diorama) figure wearing her Plugsuit, I think that one is a best seller... well, I don't know. Anyways, buy her or any of the figures now if you're an Evangelion fan. Bandai has never disappointed me... yet.

Cheers and Happy Collecting!
