I was waiting for the latest Play Arts Kai action figure news for months now. The last new Play Arts Kai action figure announced was Elena from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Now my bestfriend sent me something that put me in a shocked state. It's a rebrand or a new Play Arts line, Play Arts Shin! And the first Play Arts Shin action figure is, my boy, Vincent Valentine from FF7 Rebirth!
I was at work when my bestfriend messaged me that he saw a post in X (Twitter) that a new Vincent Valentine action figure is officially announced and teased by SQEX. Here's the image from the tweet.
I was expecting a new Play Arts Kai action figure of Vincent because he's a popular and cool character. But the fact that he's the first Play Arts Shin action figure, took me by surprise and made me excited, and I want more info! But I can't view the tweet because X and other social media platforms are blocked in my office. So I requested a screenshot of the tweet and here it is, with translation.
More info will be released soon, unfortunately. But we can still get a few impressions and speculations based on this single image.
It seems like the size or scale will be the same as Play Arts Kai, around 1/7 scale. The figure uses cloth material for the cape. The articulations still look the same, I see that ugly elbow joint. The detail in the sculptwork and paintjob looks the same as Kai. Unfortunately we didn't get to see some accessories, just Vincent's gun as seen on the image above.
So in my initial impression, it's going to be mostly the same, unless the SQEX increased or reduced the size of the figure and uses more different material, added new articulation points and increased the accessory count and variety. The price is what I'm afraid of. I'm leaning to a more expensive price for this Play Arts Shin action figure. I will be expecting the price hike so that I won't be disappointed when SQEX shared some more information in the future.
I have a question: Is Kai getting discontinued and will be replaced by Shin or they will exist together? I bet it will be a marketing disaster if these two Play Arts brands co-exist with one another. I can see the canibalization of the two brands.
With all those things I said, negative or positive, still, this is my boy we're talking about, of course I'm gonna buy this new action figure of Vincent Valentine!
Cheers and Happy Collecting!
More Vincent!
