The search is over! I finally got the Play Arts Kai action figure of the foul-mouthed half-human, half-shade but best girl, Kainé from NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... (that's very long, let's make it ver.1.22 instead). This figure is looking great so let's start the review.
"Don't make me start talking about loyalty and debts and all that -- you know I hate mushy shit."
~ Kainé ~

THE FIGURE
Viewing Kainé |
Wow, she looks great. This is the redesigned Kainé for the game's remaster to make it look more consistent to the NieR: Automata character design.
Face of an angel and mouth of a sailor. |
Kainé may have a mouth that makes all sailors blush, but she's a beautiful woman. The facesculpt and paintwork looks great and really accurate to the in-game version. No complaints there.
Her hair is braided in to a ring. |
The hair looks nice and clean. It got that pearlescent color. It really shines if you point a light on it. There are some black strands at the back that ties Kainé's circular braids which is soft and flexible.
She's wearing a Lunar Tear flower. |
There's a Lunar Tear flower hanging on Kainé's left ear. It looks nice.
Kainé's underwear. |
Like Bro Nier said when they first met, Kainé is wearing an underwear/lingerie. She wears that to emphasize her womanhood because there's something odd about her. Anyway, the light blue lingerie looks great and sexy. It's frilled and have some wrinkles for detail. The paintwork makes it look like it's made of very thin silky fabric.
Kainé's back. |
The back shows more of Kainé's skin.
A closer look at Kainé's chest. |
The black strands are painted nicely. The bust area of the lingerie is really detailed.
Kainé's rear up close |
The lingerie is tied on a bow at the back. Her panties look really small and revealing.
Right arm. |
Her right arm is bare. She wears a black gloves with blue sleeves that matches the lingerie.
Bandaged left arm. |
The left arm is covered with bandages that goes to her neck. There are some blue parts peeking in the bandages.
Right leg. |
The right leg have long stockings with black band on top. Some clear pearlescent coating are applied on the stocking. It have that shine.
Bandaged left leg. |
The left leg is covered with bandages. In addition to that, there's also a sleeve from the calf to the shin. The sleeve is blue with reddish floral patterns. The sleeve is also have five black straps.
Back of the legs. |
The back shows more detail. The back side of the right leg have some wrinkles at the back of the knee area.
Kainé's heeled shoes. |
Kaine is wearing black high heeled shoes with blue straps. The left foot is covered with bandages.
Bottom of the shoes. |
The bottom of the shoes is flat. The right shoe have copyright stuff embossed.
ACCESSORIES
Kainé came with a lot of stuff in the packaging so I separated them in to three sections.
EQUIPMENT
These are all of Kainé's equipment. It got nice variety.
Kainé's stuff. |
She have her two swords. She also got a single broken blade for the sword. Grimoire Weiss is with her and lastly she have a Lunar Tear flower.
Kainé's dual swords. |
Kainé have two identical jagged swords. They're saw-like and very barbaric looking, very contrasting to her feminine look.
Sword emblem. |
The blades are textured and have something that looks like a small emblem.
Sword grip and pommel. |
The grip of the swords have smooth texture and have that thing on the pommel that looks like a clasp where you can connect a chain or put some tassels on it.
Both swords can be disassembled in to three parts. |
The grip and its pommel is removable. Be careful disassembling the grip parts because the pommel clasp part looks fragile.
Broken blade. |
This is the broken blade. It looks kinda sharp at that pointy tip.
Broken sword. |
Here's what the broken sword looks like.
"I am Grimoire Weiss!
My very name brings kingdoms to their knees!"
~ Grimoire Weiss ~
Grimoire Weiss front. |
The talking book, Grimoire Weiss looks really detailed. The details are impressive. The golden engraved patterns and his face looks great. The paintjob is awesome.
Grimoire Weiss back |
The back looks much more simple than on the front.
Grimoire Weiss opened. |
Grimoire Weiss can be opened. He can fire projectiles in the game. There are some texts when you open the book but the texts are unreadable because of the runic nature of the letters.
Lunar Tear: stem |
The Lunar Tear is a rare flower in the game. This flower is made of soft flexible plastic so don't worry about breaking this accessory.
Lunar Tear: flower |
This flower is white and it looks nice. By the way this flower is very small so be careful not to lose this small piece.
INTERCHANGEABLES
Kainé have a nice set of interchangeable accessories.
Interchangeable bottom lingerie back. |
Kainé have an interchangeable bottom piece of her lingerie. This is the back side of this part.
Interchangeable bottom lingerie front. |
And here's the front side. This part is flared more to the front. Giving more opening to the legs so that they can move a little bit more.
"Naked" Kainé front. |
The bottom lingerie part is easily swappable. The figure's upper torso is surprisingly easy to remove. SQEX toy designers really put a thought about on how to make it easier to swap this part. So in case you're wondering this is what Kainé looks like without the bottom part of the lingerie.
"Naked" Kainé back. |
She's more naked now. This figure still looks good even without the bottom part of the lingerie if you ignore the obvious articulation parts and cuts.
Interchangeable angry shouting face. |
Kainé's shouting face looks good paint and sculpt-wise but doesn't look angry enough.
Extra hands. |
Kainé have a total of seven extra interchangeable hands. She got a pair of fists for punching, a pair of styled open hands for more poses and gestures, a pair of gripping hands for the swords and a right hand for holing the Lunar Tear flower.
Here's my little gripe on Kainé's interchangeable accessories. There's one thing missing here, and that's an interchangeable front hair without a flower. Why this optional hair piece is needed? It's because of the separate Lunar Tear accessory. It's redundant for this Kainé figure to hold a Lunar Tear while also having one on her ear. I think it's oversight for SQEX to not include the part.
MOUNTS
This action figure came with display stand clear mounts for Grimoire Weiss.
Grimoire Weiss mounting parts. |
The clear mounting parts come in five parts and two of those parts are interchangeable.
Display stand. |
This is the display stand. Better use it to make Kainé look awesome while displayed.
Display stand with closed Weiss mount. |
The clear mounting parts are connected to the stand. Here's the first optional mount for Grimoire Weiss if you want to mount him closed.
Display stand with opened Weiss mount. |
The other mount can be used if you want display Grimoire Weiss opened.
Mounted Weiss closed. |
Here's what it looks like up close and with Grimoire Weiss. This is the closed book mount.
Mounted Weiss opened. |
And this is the opened book mount.
Kainé with her swords equipped together with Grimoire Weiss. |
Here's what Kainé looks like with Grimoire Weiss and her weapons equipped. Pretty cool, right?
ARTICULATIONS
"You think you're hot shit, huh?" |
Time to test the poseability of this Kainé PAK action figure.
Just standing. |
The head is on a double ball peg. It moves really well, the movement range is great so no complaints there. I didn't notice it at first, there's a really well hidden neck joint. It helps the neck to move more but it's very limited because this joint is placed really snug at the black string part at the neck area of the lingerie.
Her Shade side is acting up again. |
The shoulders have hinged ball peg. The shoulders can shift but have a hard time to cross the chest. The arms can fully rotate, raise to the side and have bicep swivel.
Sexy pose. |
The elbows are double-hinged. It got really nice movement range but it looks ugly when folded. The biceps and forearms can swivel on the ends of the elbow joint. The ball-hinges at the wrist moves well.
One of my favorite Kainé poses. |
The upper torso can move well. It can tilt and turn side to side. It can do some ab crunch and have a nice range going back.
The waist moves really well too. It moves much better if you use the interchangeable bottom part of the lingerie.
Kainé kick. |
Both legs can go up forward well and can go back a bit. If you use the other bottom part of the lingerie, the movement range of the legs increases, making it possible to do kicks...
Relaxing. |
...and make this figure sit properly. The legs can twist on the leg joints. There's also a well hidden swivel joint on the stockings. This makes the lower parts of the legs move more.
Aerial strike. |
The knees are double-hinge they move well. It exposes some gaps and cavities on the knees, so as usual, it looks bad when folded.
Double charging slash. |
The ankles for the feet are ball-hinges. They move well, it can go up in two clicks from neutral position and can point down in two clicks from neutral. The feet can also swivel and pivot.
"Book, fucking do something!" |
This action figure can stand on its own but it's kinda difficult because it's wearing heels and the pivot motion of its feet is angled making it a little hard to find that flat standing spot.
SCALING
Scale comparison time!
Kainé meets 2B. |
Kainé is my second PAK figure from the NieR franchise. Here she is next to 2B (Automata). They both have almost the same height.
Pretty girls. |
Cindy (FFXV) and Lunafreya (FFXV) are shorter than Kainé. Aranea (FFXV) and Mature Dress Tifa (FFVIIR) have the same height.
Hanging out with two fellow silver/white maned people and two Variants. |
Sephiroth (FFVIIR) is the tallest in this picture. Riku (KH3) and Hatsune Miku (Variant) is shorter while Harley Quinn (Variant) is the same height as Kainé.
Kainé as part of Avalance. |
Kainé have the same height as Cloud (FFVIIR) and Tifa (FFVIIR). Aerith (FFVIIR) and Jessie (FFVIIR) are both shorter.
Kainé with the people of Ivalice and Jack, the Ripper. |
QUALITY ISSUES
I didn't find any flaws, broken parts, loose parts and missing pieces on this Kainé PAK action figure, this figure is pretty solid. Even no problems in the paintwork. I think this figure is one of those rare figures that are made really, really, really well. I can't say it's perfect but she's almost there.
CONCLUSION
Another great Play Arts Kai action figure added to my collection! This NieR Replicant ver.1.22 Kainé PAK figure looks great, it's fun to pose and have lots of accessories. I didn't even find any production/factory problems on this figure, it's almost perfect. I got this brand new and for a little cheaper price so it's a great deal. If you're a fan of the NieR game franchise then pick this up, this figure is really great. So far, Kainé is the only one from NieR Replicant ver.1.22 that is made as a Play Arts Kai action figure. I sure hope that they make Bro Nier and Emil too.
Here's a little comic...
Meeting a flower peddler. |
...and I also made this edit too.
Kainé remembers something special. |
Kainé holding a Lunar Tear. This is why an additional interchangeable front hair piece without a flower for this figure is needed.
Cheers and Happy Collecting!
