First toy review of the year! Sorry for being so late for this post. I watched The Suicide Squad movie. The new 2021 version, not the first one starring Will Smith. I like the movie, better than the first. Anyway, I got the first action figure from the movie and it's Polka Dot Man, an unpopular super villain from the DC universe. This is a McFarlane Toys action figure and part of the DC Multiverse line.

but if I pretend they're my mom, it's easy."

PACKAGING
Box front |
The box is windowed. You can already see the figure and its accessories in the box. By the way this Suicide Squad wave have a Collect To Build (CTB) figure and it's King Shark. I bought the first wave online and they all don't have the King Shark parts. Trade-off is that they're cheaper and I plan to get the better version of King Shark (Gold Label), which is a separate figure.
Box back |
The back of the box shows a large promotional image of Polka Dot Man and which King Shark parts he comes with (head and belly).
Taken out of his box |
Packaging includes:
- Polka Dot Man figure- Goggles
- Right polka dot launcher/bracer (closed)
- Polka dot projectile effect
- Polka Dot Man trading card
- Display base
THE FIGURE
Profile shot |
This Polka Dot Man figure looks nice, really detailed for a small figure. Overall, this figure looks nice. It just require some paint washes, shadings and additional paint colors to make it look cooler.
Mug shot |
The face looks great. It looks accurate to the actor, David Dastmalchian, who played the role of Polka Dot Man. The hood have red and green polka dots around it. The mold mark is visible on the right ear cup.
Polka Dot Man's suit |
His suit looks like a party suit, but for super heroes. It's grey or dirty white and have lots of polka dots around it. The suit lacks shading but the sculpt is really detailed with stiches and ridges.
Suit back |
The back looks a little boring, but the polka dots livens up the costume.
Right arm with opened bracer |
The arms looks good. Both features a bracer where Polka Dot Man releases his polka dot powers. The right bracer is opened by default. The right hand here is relaxed.
Left arm with closed bracer |
The left bracer is closed. It would be nice if both of them have open and closed versions of the bracer. The left hand looks like it's clawing.
Belt |
The belt is brown with some silver parts. Looks nice.
Pants front |
The pants are really detailed. So many polka dots!
Pants back |
The back of the pants looks simple.
Brown boots |
The brown boots looks good but they look flat. They lack some other colors and shadings.
Bottom of the boots |
The boots have treads on the sides only. Both have peg holes for the display base.
ACCESSORIES
Polka Dot Man doesn't have that many stuff in the movie so I expect his accessory count is very low. He only got three accessories: goggles, bracer (closed) and polka dot effects. He doesn't have any extra hands.
Polka Dot Man's accessories |
It would be nice if they added another opened version of the bracer for Polka Dot Man's left wrist and another polka dot effects. I also with they included a bloated version of his head.
Goggles |
This is Polka Dot Man's goggles. It's made of soft plastic and the red glasses are translucent. The goggles lacks silver paint on the rims of the goggles.
Closed right bracer |
This is the closed version of the bracer for the right wrist. It's easy to swap this to the opened version. Just remove the right hand then slide out the opened bracer (takes a little effort) then switch it to the closed version then put back the right hand.
Polka dot effect |
The polka dot effects looks nice. It's made of flexible plastic. It got red, blue and yellow dots... but no green? Any way it's easy to put this on Polka Dot Man's right bracer, just slide it on the wrist. No need to remove the right hand. You can also put this on the left wrist but it's a little loose because of the closed left bracer.
Trading card and display base |
The trading card and the standard display base is sealed on this cardboard blister packaging. I think I will just leave them in there.
ARTICULATIONS
This is my first time to have a McFarlane Toys action figure. I heard and read that their figures have many articulation points.
Superhero pose |
The head is on a ball joint. It's limited when looking up because of the suit's collar. Same when looking down. The head can tilt side to side and fully turn around.
Showing off his polka dot shooters (bracers) |
The shoulders is on a ball joint making both arms fully rotate, raise to the side, tilt/shift around and cross to the chest a little (hindered by the suit).
Adjusting his bracer |
Both arms have bicep swivel. The elbows are double hinged. Their bending range is really great but they don't look good when you bend them. The wrists have ball hinges and they move really well.
Shooting polka dots |
The chest articulation is hidden under the suit. The suit is a separate piece that's made of soft and flexible plastic. Surprisingly, the chest turns, do ab crunches, bend back and tilt side to side really well.
Sprinting |
I tried to move the waist, but it won't budge. I guess waist articulation doesn't exist on this figure. Good thing that the chest articulation is really good.
Shooting polka dots using his left arm. |
The legs are ratcheted and have nice movement range. They can raise to the side well, no splits but range is good enough for high kicks. Raising the legs to the front is good and can go back a little bit. I tried to swivel the legs but they're very stiff and I'm afraid to break this figure's legs if I force them to move.
Shooting space starfishes while covering his face. |
The knees are double-hinged. They're little stiff on my figure but they move really well.
Sitting down adjusting his goggles. |
The feet have ratcheted ball-hinges and they only move in once click up and down. The sculpt on the boots hinder the feet's movement, making this figure hard to stand on its own.
Crouch attack. (I wish this figure got two polka dot effects) |
The feet can turn side to side and pivot.
Puking polka dots |
Both foot have toe hinges.
SCALING
This is the first McFarlane figure I reviewed so I will compare this Polka Dot Man figure with my DC Bombshells figures.
Polka Dot Man with the DC Bombshells ladies. |
Wow, Polka Dot Man is at scale with some DC Collectibles figures. His the tallest in this group with Batwoman, Hawkgirl, Harley Quinn and Katana.
QUALITY ISSUES
There are no major issues and missing parts/pieces on this figure. Some parts are a little loose.
CONCLUSION
Aside from the bad feet articulation, this McFarlane Toys action figure of Polka Dot Man from the Suicide Squad 2021 movie is really good. Most of the articulations moves really well, except for the feet. The accessories are really few and could use some extra hands and another polka dot effect. The figure looks really good but mostly look flat because of the lack of shadings. I got this one really cheap because it doesn't have the King Shark parts. If you like the movie and want to add an obscure DC character in your collection then I recommend this figure.
Cheers and Happy Collecting!
