Yay! I got a new toy to review and it's the DX (deluxe) edition of the Play Arts Kai action figure of YoRHA No. 2 Type B, 2B for short, from NieR: Automata! But there's a good and bad news. Bad news is that this is a "bootleg?". Good news is that it's quality is really high, it's more like an authentic figure but a factory reject.
"Everything that lives is designed to end.
We are perpetually trapped in a never-ending spiral of life and death.
Is this a curse? Or some kind of punishment?"
~ 2B ~
PACKAGING
Box: front |
Like most bootlegs, the image quality of this packaging is low, but the quality of the box's cardboard and plastic figure tray are great. This is mostly a huge black box. No front promo image of the figure. The spelling of the brand is correct and it got that "Deluxe Version" sticker, that's set a little low, on top of the NieR: Automata and YoRHa logos. Left and right of the box is black with the PAK logo. There are no tirangular Arts logo around this box.
Box: back |
The back of the box shows a faint silhouette of 2B. You can't see it properly because of the low image quality.
I forgot to take the bottom part of the box but this figure have a serial number.
Front cover opened |
If you open the magnetic front cover, you'll see the promo images of the 2B PAK figure but no character background or game plot summary. You can view the action figure and some of its accessories through the viewing window. The box's design obscures some of the figure's accessories.
Wow that's a lot of stuff! |

THE FIGURE
Viewing 2B |
2B looks amazing, Akihiko Yoshida did a great job on designing her and other characters in the game.
YoRHa unit mug shot |
2B's face looks great even when blindfolded. Her pink lips are glossy.
A closer look at 2B's face. |
Her mole looks nice, but slightly not in the right location, not complaining though. Her white hair is really detailed. Her black blindfold have some nice details as well.
2B's goth maid looking outfit |
The design of 2B's outfit look like a goth maid outfit and it's awesome. It looks leathery. I really like the details of her outfit. There are lots of stitching and wrinkles. I thought the chest area is made of translucent plastic but they're painted to make it look like it's translucent. You can partly see her cleavage in the small gap on the chest area.
2B's back partially revealed |
The back have the same details and it partially shows 2B's back. Nice skin tone.
2B's arm |
The sleeves of 2B's outfit are very wrinkled and there are black feathers at the cuffs. 2B is also wearing a pair of long two-toned black and white gloves.
Arm pits exposed |
This is a dead giveaway that this figure is a "bootleg?" or a factory reject. The inside area of the shoulders are skin colored, not black, but easily re-paintable.
2B's skirt |
The skirt part of the outfit have really nice detailed lace-like patterns. They're painted a little faint. The underside of the skirt is white.
2B's booted legs |
2B got really nice long legs. She covered those legs with a stockings with black garter, those are shaded nicely. and long heeled boots. Her undies are white and I'm quoting Solid Snake here: 2B's "got a great butt".
Boots back |
The back of the boots have shoelaces and the eyelets for the shoelaces are colored white. The boots have wrinkles for more detail.
High heels |
The boots are high heeled. Even though the heels are thin, they're hard enough to carry this figure's weight. Meaning, this figure can stand well on its own.
ACCESSORIES
2B's DX version have lots of accessories so I separated them in three different sections. She got a lot of stuff but I wish there are few more included, like the open fire version of the Pod and her tiny Black Box.
By the way, in the standard version of the 2B PAK figure, you only get one sword and four extra hands for accessories.
EQUIPMENT
2B have three equipment to use.
Swords |
She got two swords: a small sword and a large sword.
Virtuous Contract |
The small sword is named Virtuous Contract. This is her starting sword in the game. In the standard version of this figure, you only get this sword.
Tasseled sword grip pommel |
This sword is black and white in color with some silver. The design of the sword resembles a katana. It also features a tassel on the pommel of the sword grip.
Two parts of the Virtuous Treaty sword |
The larger sword is called Virtuous Treaty. It comes in two parts. The larger blade part and the sword grip.
Virtuous Treaty |
This is a really huge, or rather, a long sword. It's a little shorter than Sephiroth's Masamune. Like it's smaller sword sibling. The design looks similar to a katana and it's also black and white in color with some silver and gold or copper-ish parts.
2B's weapons |
Here are the two swords together. You can see that the Virtuous Contract is smaller than the Virtuous Treaty.
Pod 042 front view |
This is Pod 042, 2B's personal Pod. Highly useful in the game. It can fire projectiles rapidly and can fire a large laser. This Pod also helps 2B glide on the air by holding on this it while on mid air.
Pod 042 profile view |
This Pod is highly detailed, painted really well and both of its arms can move. Really cool.
INTERCHANGEABLES
2B got a nice variety of interchangeable parts.
Extra hands |
She got a total of four extra hands, a pair of them for holding the swords and another pair for stylish poses and gestures. These extra hands looks great.
Two interchangeable faceplates |
2B also got two interchangeable faceplates. One blindfolded and screaming and one without a blindfold and in neutral expression. Both faceplates looks amazing, sculpt-wise and paint-wise. The one without a blindfold looks pretty and not derpy.
"Naked" lower torso front view |
This is the "naked" lower torso. You can make 2B's skirt disappear if you self-destruct in the game. After self-destructing, 2B will be in critical condition but her skirt got blown away. It will remain that way unless you use the transporter. Anyway, this part have nice details like the design on the white undersuit.
"Naked" lower torso back view |
Here you can see 2B's great booty in it's glory. Looks really nice, but my figure got a really dirty interchangeable lower torso especially on the rear side. You need to detach the skirt part of the figure and pull both legs off from the lap swivel joints. Then attach this "naked" part to the upper torso then attach both legs.
2B without her skirt on. |
Here's 2B with the "naked" lower torso and no blindfold faceplate. Looks great!
MOUNTS
The DX version of 2B have mounting parts for her Pod and weapons.
Mounting parts |
Most of them are made of clear white plastic. It requires some assembly. Follow the manual to correctly assemble these parts. The main mounting block holds all of the parts and they're all attached to the secondary display stand arm.
Sword halos |
These are the halos for the two swords. They look nice and yellowish or gold-like with white parts.
Display stand with two arms |
DX version of 2B have a special YoRHa display base and it comes with two arms: a longer one and a shorter one. The shorter one is used for the weapon and Pod mounts. The longer one is for 2B. The packaging also comes with two clamps: big and small clamps.
Both swords and Pod mounted |
Here's the Pod and the two weapons properly mounted on the shorter display stand arm. I wish the secondary arm is made of clear plastic to make it look more like the Pod and weapons are floating.
Everything equipped front view |
Now here's the display stand with most of the stuff in found the deluxe packaging. 2B with all her equipment accessories on looks amazing.
Everything equipped back view |
This is what it looks like when viewed from behind. It's kinda hard to see the mounted floating weapons. That's why I said that the secondary display stand arm must be translucent. But it will be better if the Pod and the weapons are mounted on a separate clear display base.
ARTICULATIONS
"Glory to mankind." |
Now, let's have some fun posing 2B.
2B's official pose |
The head is on a double ball peg and it can fully rotate. 2B can look around without any problems, that's nice. This figure also have neck articulation for more head movement range.
Petting the Pod |
The shoulders uses a ball peg hinge joints. I can feel the shoulders click when I try to raise them to the side. They're probably ratcheted. The ball peg part can make the arms shift and rotate.
Charging attack |
The arms have bicep swivel and hidden by the outfit's shoulder puff. That's really cool. The elbows are double-hinged and not ratcheted. Looks ugly when you bend them, but they got nice range of motion. The biceps and the forearms can also swivel on both ends of this joint.
Small sword ready stance |
The upper torso is on a double ball peg. It can turn side to side and lean left and right without any problems. It got a nice movement range when doing the ab crunch and bending backwards.
Large sword ready stance. |
The waist articulation is under the skirt. It's kinda loose, but can still hold nice and difficult poses. The waist helps the torso to move more.
Dual-wielding attack |
Both legs have good range of motion. It can go forward a little higher than 90 degrees and can go a bit backward. They can also raise sideways really well. They can also twist left and right on the joints.
Rear view pose |
The "naked" lower abdomen also have the same leg articulation and got better movement range but it lacks waist articulation.
Dual-wield pose |
Both legs can also swivel on the hidden lap swivel joint. Both knees are double hinged and can move really well, no problems there but I still don't like how it looks when the knees are totally bent.
Aerial stab |
The feet have ball-hinges. Again, the movement range is great and can pivot.
SCALING
Let's see the height of this "KO?" 2B PAK figure compared with some PAK figures in my collection.
2B with Cloud and Sephiroth |
Let's start with my other two "bootleg?", factory reject or "in-between KO and authentic" figures. 2B is a bit shorter than Cloud ver. 2 (FFVII:R) and Sephiroth (FFVII:R) is a very tall man.
2B with Tifa and Aerith |
Here's 2B next to my authentic figures. 2B is a tiny bit shorter than Tifa (FFVII:R) while she's a tiny bit taller than Aerith (FFVII:R).
Silver-white-haired ladies. |
2B is about the same height as Aranea (FFXV). Fran (FFXII) is a tall woman.
Two cyborgs and an android. |
Finally, here's 2B with the cyborgs. Raiden (MGR) is taller while bootleg Gray Fox (MGS) is the same height as 2B
QUALITY ISSUES
The quality of this 2B "KO?" figure is great for its cheap price but I found some issues. Don't worry though, these are nothing compared to broken/warped parts, derpy deformed faces and missing accessories found in most common PAK bootlegs.
- Kinda loose lower torso
- 2B's mole is near on her chin, not on the bottom left end side of her lips.
- The inside area of the shoulders are skin tone in color, they must be black. (I repainted them after taking photos of this figure).
- The paint job of the weapons are a little pale but not that noticeable, so it's OK to me.
- The "naked" lower torso's rear side is dirty.
- The Pod's left arm came loose on the packaging. It gave me a scare, but it just got detached. I reattached it on the main body and it's good as new.
In my opinion, most of these issues that I mentioned are most likely the reasons why this figure got rejected in the factory.
CONCLUSION
So is this "bootleg?" Play Arts Kai action figure of 2B DX version worth it? The answer is a big yes! I'm considering this a factory reject PAK figure because this figure looks great, it can pose very well, it comes with many accessories and the best part is its cheaper than the authentic! This figure costs $45.00 (approx. Php.2,500.00) so it's about $90.00 to $100.00 (approx. Php.4,550.00 to Php.5,500.00) cheaper. I'm glad to add this to my Play Arts Kai collection and this is my 3rd "in-between KO and authentic" figure. Should I recommend this figure? Yes, if you want a cheaper 2B figure and a DX version at that. No, if you only collect authentic PAK figures.
Cheers and Happy Collecting!
I've see it on Aliexpress, gotta admit it surprised me because looks so good to be just a ''bootleg'', and there is some others that look good as this one. So I suspect that instead of bootlegs, they are simple factory rejects. I got the original some months ago, the first batch apearently came with the loose torso so i sold it. I got the recently reissue and the overall quality improve.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm considering this a factory reject and I'm hoping for A2 and 9S to appear in the market as rejected PAK action figures. Because I find it difficult to buy expensive authentic versions nowadays. Awesome that you got an improved re-release version.
