Time to make another Play Arts Kai action figure wish list that will or will not come true, but hey it's still fun.
Square-Enix have a knack of not completing their Play Arts Kai set from their different titles. They will make the first batch of 1 or 3 characters from one title (e.g. Lightning Returns: FFXII or Final Fantasy XII respectively) to be made as Play Arts Kai action figures. If the title is not popular enough or the first batch of figures didn't sell well they will discontinue that set.
Other reasons are:
- Action figure production is costly especially if they're going to make new molds for the figures. So they're on a tight budget to make new toys like PAKs.
- Some characters are not popular enough to be made as action figures, because they will probably not sell well enough.
Well anyway that's only my gut opinion. I don't know anything about sales and marketing. So... time to list out the characters I wish SQEX will make as Play Arts Kai action figures. I will focus first on SQEX's main titles: Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, etc.
WARRIOR OF LIGHT (FINAL FANTASY)
Why SQEX still won't make this man? I mean, Garland now have a PAK figure coming soon... I know they made a Variant PAK version, a Trading Arts Kai Mini figure and a Static Arts Bust statuette of him buy still no normal PAK version. If they will make this figure, then I want the original design made by Yoshitaka Amano but in Tetsuya Nomura's art style (Dissidia) for consistency with most of the PAK figures. I also wish they use cloth material for his cape and side skirts. For accessories he must have an interchangeable head without his helmet, his sword and his shield.
IRIS AMICITIA (FINAL FANTASY XV)
She's Gladiolus' younger sister and is very close to Noctis. She's a temporary party member and she can fight enemies and support the Chocobros, She can also ride with the boys on the Regalia. I thought SQEX will make her because they made the three girls: Lunafreya, Cindy and Aranea. It's no brainer that Iris will be next character to be made, but sadly it didn't happen.
RAVUS NOX FLEURET (FINAL FANTASY XV)
He's Lunafreya's older brother, he didn't have much screen time in the main game and in the Kingsglaive movie. We didn't even have a boss fight with him in his normal form. But he's a major support character in Episode Ignis where we got to know him more and fight him as a boss. He's got cool design.
ARDYN IZUNIA (FINAL FANTASY XV)
The main bad dude of FFXV. He's my top 2 main villain (Kefka from FFVI is still my best FF villain) in the Final Fantasy series. He's got very a complicated design that might limit some articulations if he's made as a PAK figure plus he might be expensive to make because of different kinds of plastic and probably cloth materials to use. Probably these are the reasons why he never got an action figure version in the first place.
SNOW VILLIERS (LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII)
This is the coolest-looking version of Snow in my opinion. He looks formal, royalty-like, with his slick clothes but he's got a face and hair of a tired, broken man. If he's made as a PAK figure he will get an interchangeable Cieth arm and Cieth headsculpt. For weapons, he will get that Ice Halberd that he made to fight Lightning in the opening cinematic of the game.
LUMINA (LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII)
A mysterious girl that looks like Lightning's sister, Serah. She's always there to interrupt or sometimes help Lightning on her quest to save as may souls as she can. She didn't have much stuff in the game because she just appears and disappears as she pleases. So if she's made as a PAK figure she will only have some extra hands or probably another head sculpt. With her and Snow as PAK figures, they will complete the first wave of Lightning Returns FFXII PAK set.
VAAN (FINAL FANTASY XII)
He's probably the weakest main protagonist in the FF series, but he got the main spotlight and a good character development in FFXII's portable sequel, Revenant Wings. They already made him as a classic Play Arts figure, so I don't know why he didn't get a Kai version.
PENELO (FINAL FANTASY XII)
Vaan's partner that supports and sometimes scolds him. Like Vaan, she's also a weak character plot-wise and got a good development in the sequel. If they will make her, I wish they use her ending and Revenant Wings design where she got a Dancer and White Mage job. But I'm still cool with her original design as an action figure.
ASHELIA B'NARGIN DALMASCA (FINAL FANTASY XII)
I think Ashe is the main female protagonist of the game because of her strong will and determination to return to the Kingdom of Dalmasca and reclaim her throne. Like Vaan, she also have a classic Play Arts figure. She became a late party member in Revenant Wings.
BASCH FON RONSENBURG (FINAL FANTASY XII)
He is probably the main character of the game in my opinion. But because FFXII have a mature story, SQEX toned down the plot to be more "teen-friendly" and put in Vaan as a protagonist of the game to represent the younger players. Spoiler: Did you know that he takes on the role of his twin brother, Noah (Gabranth) and became a Judge Magister? Both he and Penelo still haven't made as an action figure. I hope they get a chance.
I will end my list here and continue on the next post because I still have more characters to mention that needs to be a made as Play Arts Kai action figures. So stay tuned on Part 2!
Cheers!
I wholeheartedly agree that there should have been an Ardyn PAK, wish Y'shtola got one too and Ace from Type-0
ReplyDeleteYeah Ardyn is going to be an awesome PAK figure. Imagine him as a PAK figure with his red Rakshasa Blade and a Starscourged interchangeable facesculpt
