[Toy Review] JUNKRAT - Overwatch Ultimates

Hey, here's Overwatch's Junkrat, a dude who likes to blow things up. This is an Overwatch Ultimates action figure made by Hasbro. At first glance it looks like a fun action figure. This figure is pretty interesting character design-wise so let's proceed to the review. Let's find out if this toy blows or not, pun intended.

"It's a perfect day for some mayhem."
~ Junkrat ~

PACKAGING

Box front

The box have a very cool large artwork of Junktrat. The windowed box shows the figure and some of its accessories are hidden behind the artwork.

Box back

The back shows a partial artwork of Junkrat along with his info at the side (obstructed by the toy distributor's sticker). You can also see four small pictures of other Overwatch characters that are now available as an Overwatch Ultimates action figure.

He's now out from the box to make things go boom.

Packaging includes:
- Junkrat figure
- Frag Launcher
- Concussion Mine
- RIP-Tire
- Left hand with mine detonation trigger
- Right open hand
- Muzzle flash effect for the Frag Launcher

THE FIGURE

Viewing Junkrat's four sides.

Junkrat is already hunched in the packaging. So I straighten him up a bit for his profile shots. This is a pretty tall figure (in Overwatch Ultimates scale) which you'll see later in this review's SCALING section. This is a pretty cool-looking figure and its design is asymmetrical in some parts.

Mug shot

He kinda looks like Arkham Series' Joker. He's probably Joker's Australian cousin. The face is really accurate to its game counterpart.  I like Junkrat's crazy smile even though his entire face is almost covered by char. Some parts of his teeth is yellowish.

Bald spot!

The hair looks good but it lack some dark burned tips for the hair. Around the bald spot, there are some hair that lack paint.

No shirt.

Junkrat doesn't have a top. His slim upper body have some muscle definition. The skin tone looks good but I don't see any shadings.

Grenade-heavy bandolier.

He's wearing a black bandolier with lots of grenades(?). The grenades are gray with orange "lids", they also lack the skull prints.

RIP-Tire mount.

The back of the bandolier have a part that where he keeps his RIP-Tire.

Dynamite Crossbones.

Theres a crossbones tattoo on Junkrat's right bicep. The skull looks like Junkrat and underneath the skull are two crossed dynamites. The tattoo is nicely printed on the figure's bicep.

He got a robotic hand.

Junkrat's right forearm and hand is cybernetic-looking. It's flat orange and doesn't have any shadings or any other color painted.

Left arm looks normal.

The whole left arm is still human. The hand is wearing a finger-less glove.

I don't know what's inside that bag and canister.

Junkrat's belt bag is free-floating separate piece. It's just black, detailed and got a gray canister. Again no other colors and shading on this part.

What's in the bag?

Here's a closer look on Junkrat's bag. It's nicely detailed but it's just black in color. The bag's color must be brown.

Junkrat's tattered shorts is just green. It must have a camo pattern but it got some shadings. What's cool on his short is that it's covered with pin buckles and patches. Some of the patches have printed design.

Blank patch.

Sadly some of the patches aren't printed or painted. Good thing that they're still sculpted on the figure.

More blank patches!

The back of the shorts have lots of unpainted patches. The unpainted patches are begging to be painted.

He probably stepped on a mine, that's why he lost a leg.

Junkrat's right leg (or the lower part) is amputated and got replaced by a cybernetic prosthetic leg. It looks cool and have a nice paint and colors.

He still have one good leg.

His left leg is still normal and its shin is covered with bandages. He's also wearing a black boot.

ACCESSORIES

Junkrat have a nice variety of accessories. For equipment, he got his Frag Launcher, RIP-Tire and Concussion Mine. He also got an effect part for the launcher and a couple of extra hands with one hand holding a detonation trigger.

Junkrat's BOOM toys.

This is actually decent for the toy's price point but Junkrat needs an extra hand or two.

Frag Launcher

The Frag Launcher looks nice and detailed but it only got two colors. Because of that, the weapon lacks character, looks boring too. This weapon demands a repaint.

Frag Launcher (other side)

Look at the yellow color, it looks like Hasbro made a lot of paint layers on a black surface to make the yellow stand out. The yellow paint feels sticky and makes the area of the launcher less detailed.

The lid of the launcher is just yellow. In the in-game model and artwork, the launcher have a drawn smiley face.

RIP-Tire

The RIP-Tire looks really cool. It's motorized spiked tire with a chain. This accessory is pretty heavy. The details are great. The yellow paint job is really sloppy because there's an obvious paint bleed on the tire's silver area. The gray spikes are soft.

RIP-Tire (other side)

The other side of the tire looks simpler. The rim/mags is black, I don't know if this part should have been silver or not. Look at the chain, it looks cool but there are no black paint on the gaps making it look like small sheet metals linked together. This side of the tire have a peg hole so that it can be mounted on Junkrat's back

Concussion Mine

The Concussion Mine looks more simple from the rest of Junkrat's stuff. It's detailed and it looks nice. This mine also lacks some color. The mine have a peg hole at the center.

Concussion Mine (bottom)

The bottom of the mine is semi-hollow. Kinda disappointing because this accessory have another purpose.

Extra hands

Junkrat only have two extra hands. The left hand have a detonation trigger that's really detailed and lack a few colors. The mine trigger should have been a separate accessory. The right hand is just an open hand.

Frag Launcher muzzle flash effect

The Frag Launcher have a muzzle flash effect. It's orange and made of soft translucent plastic.

RIP-Tire kept at the back.

The RIP-Tire can be mounted on Junkrat's back. But it's kinda heavy, it makes the figure fall backwards if it's standing straight up. The figure must be hunched first so it can maintain balance.

Junkrat's leg on a mine.

This is the purpose of the Concussion Mine's peg hole. The mine serves as a display base for the figure and to make the figure have more balance. The mine is kinda hollow at the bottom, but if this is a heavy non-hollow piece then it can hold the figure much better. Still, the figure can stand on its own without any problems. I just used this mine for balancing support twice for this review.

ARTICULATIONS

Don't step any closer or he's gonna pull the trigger.

Time to try this Junkrat figure's articulations. Let's have some fun!

Instructing some fool to step closer to the mine.

The head can look around really well. It's kinda limited when looking up but it can look way down to the point that his chin can touch his neck. No problems looking side to side. And the head can tilt side to side.

Holding his Frag Launcher.

The arms have a butterfly joint. It can go back well but a little to the front because the grenades limits both arm's movement to the front.

Fire!

The arms can fully rotate. They can raise to the side really well and both have bicep swivel.

He's about to chuck a Concussion Mine.

The left elbow is double hinged and have a nice more than 90 degree bend. The right elbow is single hinged and have very little movement because of the robo-forearms' bulk. The hands are hinged and can swivel.

Hero pose.

The chest can turn side to side and can tilt side to side. No problems on this part's movement range. My only gripe on this part is that the chest wobbles, at least on this figure. You can shake the Junkrat figure and it will jiggle like a bobble head. Good thing that this part can hold the pose.

Taking out his RIP-Tire for a spin.

The ab-crunch hinge have great movement range, no complaints there. It can make Junkrat hunch down more.

Catching his RIP-Tire.

The legs can't go any closer to each other. But they got nice movement range.

Pulling the trigger.

The legs can go forward really well and can go back a little. They can twist on the ball joint and can raise to the side well but they can't do the splits.

Tossing a mine.

Left and right knees have different articulation. The left leg have double-hinged knees. It looks good when you bend it.

Time for a stylish ka-boom!

The right leg's knee is single-hinged but it can bend well and doesn't look bad when bent because of its mechanical design.

Junkrat's surplus of explosive stuff.

The right leg doesn't have a foot so let's just talk about Junkrat's left foot. It's on a ball joint and moves well but it feels kinda loose. Anyway the foot can point up and down, turn side to side and pivot just fine, it's kinda hindered by the boot, it's not a big deal though.

SCALING

Let's see how this Junkrat figure height compare with some Overwatch Ultimates figures.

My Overwatch collection is looking pretty good.

Even when legs kinda spreads out, Junkrat is the tallest compared to Lucio, Tracer and Sombra.

QUALITY ISSUES

The Junkrat action figure that I doesn't have any broken parts. Some parts are kinda loose or wobbly like the left foot and the chest respectively. Some of the hair are not painted entirely.

CONCLUSION

I'm happy to have Junkrat in my Overwatch collection. This figure is "da bomb", pun intended. It looks really good and it's fun to pose. The accessory amount and variety is really good. The paint job is lacking though, no paint or prints in some parts. But this figure is cheap so I can't complain about that much. Still, I might paint some of its parts to make this figure much better. If you like Overwatch or just like the design of the characters then I recommend this action figure to add to your collection.

Cheers and Happy Collecting!
